Deja Vu?  Didn't this just happen yesterday?

The Pies got jumped early by the Cats and found themselves down 5 goals to one at the first break.  The teams appeared on the field to be quite evenly matched, but the Pies squandered several opportunities inside 50 with skill errors and poor decision making. 

The Second quarter was an entirely different affair.  The Pies applied plenty of pressure and kicked 6.1, but the Cats had answers for everything and managed 5.3 to take a handy 17 point lead into the break.  Cox was starring as Captain off half back and contributions from Frost, Anthony, Jurrah, Reid, Iles and Stanley were a feature of the Pies ascendancy.

The third continued in the same vein as the second despite the Pies kicking into a slight breeze at the Sydney Road end.  3.2 to 2.1 saw the Pies narrow the margin to just 10 points at the last break.  Yet again, as in the first half the Young and inexperienced Magpies squandered several good opportunities to score through poor decisions and could well have had the lead.  The vastly more experienced Cats really hurt the lads on the rebound.  Rowdy was impressed with the players intensity and endeavour and he could smell an upset victory against the reigning VFL and AFL premiers.

The last quarter resembled the AFL game on Saturday with the Pies running out of legs and the Cats cruising to a crushing, if not unjustified percentage boosting victory.  No goals in the last and very few chances against the Cats 7 majors.  The way the boys lost perhaps has spoiled what was a decent effort for at least 3/4 of the game, but when you play sides like Geelong you have run the game out to the final siren.

Wonderful football club, Wonderful People, From the very first moment i stepped into the Burbank oval precinct i felt at home, Burbank has charm others can only envy about, The old concrete stand, The old dressing rooms full of charm and character and most of all it's dinky-di supporters who over a short time became very good friends. It is with sadness the alliance did not continue, whilst some were happy it did not continue ' from both sides ' i felt it should have, The last day, The last game at Port Melb in the finals there was a genuine sadness, it was to be the last gathering of the Magpies and Seagulls. And so life moves on Williamstown now with AFL club Footscray whilst Collingwood goes alone, Many VFL scribes would predict a VFL flag for the pies going alone will be virtually impossible..i tend to agree! To Trev Monti thanks for all your kindness and brief friendship and whilst from time to time we will bump into one another, our lazy sunday afternoons at Burbank will be no more, Thanks for your support with the radio show, we hope to have you with us this season as some type of VFL elder casting judgement on all and sundry. Thanks to all the staff of the Willy football club who made me feel at home, from the Gals in the canteens to all the guys down in the dressing rooms, i can now understand the meaning only genuine people come from the west, Bring on Saturday 5th April when the Pies return to Burbank to give you all one final football lesson...adios to all my friends have a great year, and if we dont i hope the premiership cup is yours by a country mile!
