I first met Skids in 2000 or 2001 i forget which year now and handed him my gold wig. Which to my astonishment he still has and believe it or not wore it this ANZAC day just gone 2010 to celebrate Collingwood's win. He proudly hangs the wig in the Peter Daicos Bar along with many other Collingwood collectables Framed football cards, Membership medallions, Old footy cards going back 50-60 years, Books, Framed jumpers and other associated Collingwood stuff. I was in envy as i have nothing like that here in melbourne. Skids is a nice bloke he'd be a loyal mate that would lend a hand if you were in strife, A family man who travels hours by plane from Perth to far northern Western Austrlalia where he works as 24/7 plumber in the mines, His shift can go from one week to two weeks then he flies back home to Perth for some family relaxation. Just recently i went to Perth to see the Pies play the Shockers, Skids said maybe we should catch up when in town. He picked me up from Perth central and we went back to his place for some Collingwood chatter to kill some time before the Subiaco clash he then kindly gave me a lift to Subi for the Collingwood pre match function which was put on and run by Collingwood supporters in W.A. Skids and many other Collingwood supporters in Western Austrlalia and others of course who are located in just about every major town do it hard as they live miles away from Collingwood and the Westpac MCG precinct. But one cannot question their passion and love for Collingwood, they as we do in the heartland breathe and live Collingwood, For me personally it's a pleasure to meet such people. Onya Skids and dont forget we need some more pics mate....Floreat Pica.
Here is Skids story re his love for Collingwood and his beloved Peter Daicos Bar.
G'day mate
The pics on your web page look great!
Have just posted the 90 WEG poster, there are some stamps inside to send it back & I've also chucked in my 'Nut' , you are now a member of the Nutters club! This club was formed to raise money for different charities by means of raffles and fines. When you bump into another nutter, you can ask them "brother nutter, have you got your nut?" If they aren't able to show their nut they are fined $5 if on-site & $20 if off-site.
Over the years we have raised 10s of thousands of dollars for various charities including; Make a wish foundation, Ronald McDonald house, the RFDS and many others. Make sure you have your Nut on you at all times Brother Nutter!
It would also be good if you could get pics of some other people holding the Nut, maybe Eddie, Bucks, Daics.... anyone who might be a bit of a celeb, these sort of pics help our cause. There are are a few other rules, I will send them to you when I get back to work and get a copy of them.
Back to the Daicos Bar....I've always been a Pies supporter, was born in Swan Districts hospital & into a family of Swan Districts supporters (The Black & Whites in the WAFL)
I played junior footy for Bassendean ( Black & White of course!) & our whole family used to crowd around the TV on a Saturday afternoon to watch the Pies on the winners. I always had a small collection of memorabillia that expande a fair bit in 1990! My first trip to the MCG was Easter 1994 to see us beat the filth, it was also the day that my hero Daics did a farwell lap of honour! We visited Victoria Park & when I saw the neon light that said "The Peter Daicos Bar" I knew that I had a mission! My mother in-law had bought me a signed, framed Peter daicos jumper for my 30th birthday and this became the piece that my Bar was to be centred on. my brother, a chippy by trade, made the bar & the "Peter Daicos Bar" sign that hangs above it. In 1999 I was lucky enough to meet Daics & he was kind enough to sign heaps of my memorabillia.
In 2000 I bumped into another Pies fan at my boxing gym, turned out we knew a few people through a few other people and so on that were all mad Pies fans. we decided to get together in the Daicos Bar & watch games together, I had one of those old pirate satelitte cards and we were able to get every Pies game LIVE for a few years, before long 20+ people were crowded into my games room roaring for the Pies! We had some wonderful times in the early years but things got a bit out of hand, friends of friends would rock up and things got a bit out of hand, too many people & too much grog, the missus put her foot down!
Today the Daicos Bar is more a close friend and family gathering, The Anzac Day game is a big occassion ( my youngest daughters birthday) as are any finals. Even though we are on the other side of the country our passion for the greatest cub in the world is second to none!
Any Pies supporters travelling to Perth are welcome to contact me(skids67@gmail.com) and pop in for a frothy at the Daicos Bar
.
Go the PIES
Cheers
